„The Shape of Architecture to Come“: a reflective exhibition exploring spatial design challenges aiming to envision the architecture of tomorrow.

Architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe once stated, „Architecture is the will of an epoch translated into space,“ urging us to decode past and present design strategies to envision the shape of tomorrow’s spaces.

This exhibition deals with a critical understanding of spatial design, where design serves as both the cornerstone and a mirror of different architectural discourses. Across 30 distinct works and attitudes, each theme grapples with urgent societal concerns, spanning from sustainability and climate action to social equity and humanitarian crises. These themes are contextualized within the profound influence of design on our world. Topics encompass discussions on rapid urbanization, housing disparities, gender dynamics, healthcare environments, civic engagement hurdles, and inclusivity initiatives. Additionally, explorations delve into the impact of digital technology, emerging materials, apprehensions surrounding artificial intelligence, and conceptions of cohabitation strategies and democratic spaces.

Various architectural references and case studies are presented to demonstrate how design choices impact societies, politics, and global challenges, fostering critical thinking and discourse to inspire reflection and discussion.

„The Shape of Architecture to Come,“ both an exhibition and a magazine, encourages contemplation of the intricate relationship between our built environment’s politics and strategies and the collective will of our contemporary epoch. This critical research offers visions and alternatives, promoting a more conscientious approach to 21st-century architecture and spatial design, recognizing the power of architectural design as a catalyst for addressing future challenges.
